Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description
A device of silver color metal and enamel 1 inches (3.18 cm) in height overall consisting of a red arrowhead with point up bearing three silver stars in a triangle, the arrowhead trailing five pointed silver rays; passing in front of the rays from either side of the arrowhead an elliptical blue scroll inscribed with the words VISION TO VICTORY in silver letters.

Symbolism
The red arrowhead, pointing up, is symbolic of the Commands mission to produce improvements in the Army in the field through an upward looking, aggressive Combat Developments program.  The rays, reading from right to left, emphasize the five functions of land combat:  Fire; Movement; Control (including Command and Communication); Intelligence; and Support (including both Combat Support and Combat Service Support); and symbolize the dynamic relationship which exists between these functions.  The stars represent the threefold mission of the Command in determining How the Army will fight, How the Army will be equipped, and How the Army will be organized.  The units motto, Vision To Victory, expresses the spirit and motivation of the organization.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the noncolor bearing units of the U.S. Army Combat Developments Command.  It was redesignated for the U.S. Army Combat Developments Experimentation Command on 6 August 1973.
